Capacity & Demand

One-Page View

What Is Already Taking Capacity?

Making continuous, invisible load visible — so something can be done about it.

A keep-close version. Read it here, or screenshot this page to have it on your phone — print and PDF copies will appear once final files are attached.

Some demand doesn't arrive as events — it just runs, quietly, all the time. This is an inventory of the background load: the open loops, the worries on repeat, the sensory hum. Naming it is often the cheapest capacity gain available.

Cognitive loops — the half-open things on my mind

  • A form or admin task, unstarted
  • A conversation I'm putting off
  • A decision floating with no date
  • A plan that keeps slipping forward

Emotional background

  • A worry on repeat
  • A tense or unresolved relationship
  • The quiet calculation of whether I'm 'managing'

Sensory background

  • Light, noise, or screens at the wrong level
  • Clutter in the room where I rest
  • Other people's movement and activity around me
  • Discomfort I'm pushing along — temperature, pain, clothing

Which one is costing the most right now?

Not the biggest on paper — the one that's actually running today.

An open loop I could write downA worry I could give a decided formA sensory setting I could lowerAn unresolved thing I could move into someone else's handsSomething that's just real today — noted, respected

The one move that shrinks it

Often the move is small: write it down, lower the setting, say the sentence, hand it over.

My move

e.g. Write the appointment worry on the card, and let the card hold it

A day with 'nothing in it' can still be full — and that was never self-blame's business. Background load is load. It was never nothing.
