Appointment Rescue Sheet

Handling an appointment during a worsening with the least possible demand on you.

A keep-close version. Read it here, or screenshot this page to have it on your phone — print and PDF copies will appear once final files are attached.

For appointments landing in a crash: the reschedule script, what a supporter can say on your behalf, and what to ask for if it truly cannot move. Rescheduling is a legitimate use of a phone call — someone else's, ideally.

The reschedule message

Written here, ready — you send it, or someone sends it for you.

The opening

  • “I'm significantly unwell and can't attend —”
  • “I need to change my appointment —”
  • “I'm in a bad flare and can't come in —”

The ask

  • “can we reschedule?”
  • “is there a phone or video option?”
  • “please note I may need a call rather than coming in.”

The date (if you have one)

  • “I'll call to rebook when I'm able.”
  • “Please offer me the next available slot.”

What a supporter can carry for you

  • The phone call itself
  • The card with your details — date, time, the words you'd say
  • Your 'what is normal for me' note, if anything needs describing
  • The follow-up admin afterwards

If it truly cannot move

Transport arranged — a lift, a taxi, a shorter journeyThe shortest format — ask what's genuinely required of the visitSomeone with me who holds the questions and speaks with me, not for meAttending is not actually required at this capacity — and I'm allowed to say so

An appointment postponed honestly is not an appointment abandoned — it's carried with less damage. New, severe or significantly different symptoms, though, need medical assessment rather than rescheduling.
