Pacing & Energy

My Pacing Notes

Noticing patterns over weeks, so decisions come from evidence instead of a single difficult day.

A keep-close version. Read it here, or screenshot this page to have it on your phone — print and PDF copies will appear once final files are attached.

A page of patterns, not accounts. This is for noticing what tends to cost more than it looks, what shrinks well, and what you keep forgetting to count — without turning pacing into arithmetic.

Things that often cost more than they look

These are your notes, not rules — a pattern is information, not a verdict.

  • Phone callsThe call itself, not just the topic
  • AppointmentsTravel, waiting, processing — the visible part is the smallest
  • Shopping tripsThe browse is the expensive part
  • Visitors, even lovely ones
  • Big feelings, held in
  • Busy places — light, noise, movement

Things easier in a smaller version

  • Showers — basin wash days
  • Food — the five near-zero-effort meals
  • Seeing people — an hour, not an afternoon
  • The hobby — ten minutes lying down counts

What I usually forget to count

The invisible costs

e.g. Waiting on hold, the chat afterwards, the day's anticipation

What support helps

Support that works

e.g. Dad answering the phone for me

What I do not need to prove

Not on trial today

e.g. That I had a 'productive' day

Notes over time

One line a day is plenty if you want a running record: what the day held, and how it landed. Weeks of honest lines show the honest middle — which is much harder to see from inside a single day.

Today's one line (optional)

e.g. Quiet day. Two small things. Slept badly but held steady.

Nothing here needs completing. A note you keep for two weeks and put down is not a failure — it did its work while you held it.
