One-Topic Communication Tool

Making real-time conversation affordable on heavy brain-fog days.

A keep-close version. Read it here, or screenshot this page to have it on your phone — print and PDF copies will appear once final files are attached.

For foggy conversations: one subject at a time, slowly, in writing where possible. This builds the gentle line that asks others to meet you there — and gives you the settings that make conversation survivable.

What helps today

  • One subject at a time — finished before the next starts
  • Slow pace, no finishing my sentences
  • Written over spoken, where there's a choice
  • No penalty for silence while the word is found
  • Questions one at a time, not in bundles

Build: the 'slow down' ask

The opener

  • “My brain is foggy today —”
  • “I'm low on words today —”
  • “Today's a one-thing-at-a-time day —”

The ask

  • “one thing at a time, slowly, helps.”
  • “can we stick to one topic? I lose threads when they cross.”
  • “short sentences and a bit of patience, please.”

The reassurance (optional)

  • “It's the fog, not you.”
  • “I still want to talk — just at today's speed.”
  • “I'll say when I need a pause.”

The standing version

If fog is most days, a preference that's stated once is cheaper than asking every time.

My standing line

e.g. Texts over calls, one topic at a time — it's how my brain works best now.

Needing conversation to slow down is an accommodation, not a demand. The people worth talking to will take the slower version gladly.
