Trade-Off Sheet

Making a deliberate trade-off instead of letting collapse make it for you.

When capacity is finite, something always gives. The meaningful choice is not 'can I avoid giving something up' — it's 'which thing gives, and who chooses'. This puts two competing demands side by side and asks the honest questions.

The two things competing

Demand A

e.g. The family lunch on Sunday

Demand B

e.g. Getting through Monday without a crash

What A honestly includes

The full cost — before, during and after.

  • Preparing for it
  • The event itself — social and sensory load
  • The recovery it will need
  • What it means to me — genuinely

What B honestly includes

  • What B protects — a steadier day, a commitment, my own recovery
  • What failing B costs — days lost, not just a morning

The honest questions

Choose what fits.

One of these gives more relief than the other — and I can name itOne of these is mostly guilt talking — and I can name that tooThere's a smaller version where both surviveSomeone could carry part of oneIt's genuinely balanced — and either answer is allowed

The trade, stated plainly

What gives, chosen on purpose

e.g. Going to the lunch for one hour, not the afternoon — and Monday stays protected

A trade-off chosen on purpose is a plan, not a defeat. The relief option is often not the one that looks most responsible on paper — and that's exactly why it needed writing down.
