Communication Preference Card

Stating your communication preferences once, so they can be respected without being re-explained.

A keep-close version. Read it here, or screenshot this page to have it on your phone — print and PDF copies will appear once final files are attached.

The practical facts people need in order to stop guessing: how you'd rather be contacted, when, about what. Making it explicit once spares everyone the mismatch of expectation — and saves you the cost of correcting it forever.

What works

Texts over callsWritten over spoken — I can answer from restAfternoons are better than morningsOne topic at a time, slowlyNo surprise or unannounced callsReplies may be slow — the silence is capacity, not coldnessPlans made loosely, confirmed on the day

What costs most

Open-ended questions — 'what do you need?'Fast, overlapping conversationPhone calls with no warningBeing asked to decide on the spotMessages that need long replies

The one line that explains it

Something you could hand to anyone once, or keep as a message you paste when needed.

My line

e.g. Texts are better than calls for me — I can reply properly when I'm able, and nothing gets missed.

Stating a preference kindly is a gift to both of you: they stop guessing, and you stop paying for the guessing. It's also information — owed where you choose to give it, and not owed further.
