Low-Energy Food Setup

A layered food system: within-reach, near-zero-effort, and the batch or delivered layer above.

A keep-close version. Read it here, or screenshot this page to have it on your phone — print and PDF copies will appear once final files are attached.

Food access is where low-capacity days fail first: when eating depends on standing, chopping and washing up, the day comes where it's skipped — and skipped meals make everything worse. This builds the three layers, so there's always a version of eating that fits.

Layer one — within reach, no prep

  • Fruit that needs nothing
  • Bread and something to put on it
  • Yoghurts or the easy protein that works for you
  • Cereal bars / the snack that holds a bad afternoon
  • A filled water bottle at every resting place

Layer two — the five near-zero-effort meals

Ingredients grouped together in one place, so the meal costs one decision and almost no standing.

My five

e.g. Toast+cheese; microwave rice+tinned something; cereal; crackers+hummus; the soup that's always in the cupboard

Layer three — for the days above that

Batch cooking on a better day, frozen in portionsA delivered option I've already chosen (so no deciding while depleted)A supporter's standing offer — a soup at the door on ThursdaysNothing yet — layers one and two carry most weeks

Where the day's eating is decided

A default beats deciding while depleted: the hard-day meal is a standing answer.

The standing answer

e.g. Bad day = option one, no discussion. The meal exists to be eaten, not enjoyed.

Toast eaten lying down is a success. The system isn't about nutrition perfection — it's about the day never coming where eating quietly fails.
