Worth vs Output Reflection
Taking the worth question out of the productivity ledger, with evidence instead of reassurance.

Most of us carry a quiet equation: worth equals output. It goes unquestioned until illness removes the output side. This separates the two columns honestly — and asks which one the people who love you are actually counting.
The output column
What you currently produce, measured or felt. Honest — this is not the shame column.
What I produce now
e.g. Some cooking on good days; company when I can manage it; very little anyone would invoice for
The worth column — what you are
The things that don't produce but count. The ones people actually show up for.
- Attention — properly given when it's given
- Warmth — the version that doesn't need energy to be real
- Honesty — about this, which is rare
- Being someone worth checking in on
- Being an accurate witness of what this illness is
- Humour that survives everything
- Love — undiminished by output
The tell
- Would I hold someone I love to an output measure?Yes / No
- Do the people who show up come for what I produce?Yes / No
- Would a person at rest, producing nothing, be worth less in my eyes?Yes / No
What the answers actually say
The honest conclusion
e.g. I've never once measured the people I love this way. The equation was never true — just convenient.
Worth does not require an audience. The likes, the wages, the applause were always feedback about impact — never a measure of the person. Turning your existing generosity inward is the whole practice.
