My Crash / Flare Contact Plan
Reducing repeated communication during a worsening.
A keep-close version. Read it here, or screenshot this page to have it on your phone — print and PDF copies will appear once final files are attached.
One message, to one person, on a bad day — and they carry the rest. Deciding who and what now, on a day that allows it, is what makes the worst day a one-message day.
The routing
Main contact
e.g. Anna — she's agreed, and she knows what 'crashed' means
Who they may update
e.g. Mum, my manager (via the agreed wording), the group chat
People who do not need individual updates
e.g. Most people — one update goes to the group chat
The message, assembled
Choose what fits from each group — the message builds itself below.
The opening
- “I'm having a significant worsening and need to keep communication very limited.”
- “I'm in a bad flare —”
- “I'm not well enough to reply properly for a while —”
The detail (optional)
- “I may be slow to reply.”
- “Please don't expect answers for a few days.”
- “If it's urgent, Anna knows the situation.”
The close
- “I'll update when I can.”
- “Thank you for understanding.”
- “No need to reply to this.”
Or your own version
Custom message
e.g. Out of action for a bit — Anna has the details. Back when I can be.
The permission to delay replies was given when this plan was made — that's what the plan is for.
